CLIMATE ACCOUNTING
– GREENHOUSE GAS PROTOCOL
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is the most
widely used international standard for measuring and
managing greenhouse gas emissions across both private
and public sector organisations.
The protocol was developed jointly by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for
Sustainable Development (WBCSD). It provides a standardised methodology for quantifying, reporting, and managing greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring consistency,
credibility, and transparency in organisational reporting.

By following the GHG Protocol, companies can continuously measure their emissions, set science-based reduction targets, and implement effective strategies to lower
their climate footprint.
The framework helps identify emission sources, assess
the carbon footprint, and prioritise decarbonisation initiatives across operations and the value chain.
At the same time, it strengthens transparency and accountability, enabling stakeholders – including investors,
authorities, and customers – to make informed decisions
based on reliable and comparable data.
